Baragatan Festival: A Convergence of Fascinating Cultures
PUERTO PRINCESA, PALAWAN—This island is surely a well-known year-round destination, playing host to thousands of beachcombers and nature lovers. However, for long-time revelers of the famous Baragatan Festival, June is the best month to visit this wonderful Philippine tourist spot.
The Baragatan Festival is a month-long event that celebrates Palawan’s rich culture and interesting traditions. From the local term bagat, which means “to converge,” the Baragatan Festival is a meeting of various cultural groups, showcasing their unique characteristics, eventful histories, and popular products.
Performers during this colorful and exciting fiesta are flamboyantly clad in eye-catching outfits, which impressively match their heart-stopping stunts and well-choreographed movements; they surely make use of their remarkable skills and talents to showcase their unique customs. Alongside such performances, floats created by different institutions and organizations across the province depict the developments in their respective localities. On top of these activities, the Mutya ng Palawan Beauty Pageant has become such a crowd-drawer, allowing both locals and tourists to witness how truly beautiful the province is even solely by virtue of the captivating women who come from there, an already naturally enchanting locale.
It is also a must to drop by the trade exhibit where Palawan’s diverse range of products – from handicrafts to natural produce – may be found. Seafood has become the top Palawan pasalubong (take-home gifts), and recommended picks are sun-dried squid and fish. Don’t forget that these can taste even better with a refreshing drink of San Miguel Beer!
